Worship Ministry

Worship weaves together traditional and contemporary liturgy, music, preaching, and the arts, to create and sustain a community of faith.

  • We thrive on thought-provoking sermons that encourage deepening our spiritual practice and strengthening our justice seeking.
  • We value the collaborative involvement of all members, including children, youth, and adults, in the creation of worship experiences that call us together as a community.
  • We seek to discover "Sabbath moments," through the holy and creative use of liturgy, music and dance.
  • We welcome you and invite you to join us

Learning Ministry

Learning Ministry focuses on providing opportunities for the development and expression of Christian faith within the Downtown Church community and the larger community. We strive for a multi-faceted, integrated Christian education program for our children, youth, and adults, which includes members' faith development, spiritual growth, and justice issues.

Several ministry teams and two committees plan and develop programs to carry out these goals: Children's Education Ministry Team; Youth Ministry Team; Sunday Forum Ministry Team; Library Committee; and Archives Committee. Five persons, plus the Director of Christian Education and a Pastor, form the over-arching Learning Ministry which helps recruit persons for the ministry teams, and is the coordinating, budgeting, and long range planning arm of Learning Ministry.

Justice Ministry

Justice Ministry seeks to advocate and express the commitment of the Downtown Church to justice and resisting oppression and discrimination in all forms. Justice Ministry supports the mission of the Downtown Church through partnerships in ministry including That All May Freely Serve seeking justice for people of all races, sexual orientations, gender identities, cultures, abilities, and economic circumstances.

There are Justice Ministry groups including our affiliation with Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network (RAIHN) working with homeless people in transition, Environment, Affordable Housing and Lead Paint.

Members Ministry

A ministry of welcome and hospitality, this ministry brings together fellowship, arts, and communication teams in creative collaboration to support and expand the Downtown Church community.

Music and Arts play a vital role in the community life of Downtown Presbyterian Church. This dynamic ministry not only provides music as an integral part of the Sunday worship experience, but provides artistic opportunities for children and adults in the wider Rochester community with the Downtown Arts Link programs.
