NOTE:
Church School will be on summer vacation for the months of July and August.
Church School will resume September 17.
Childcare for infants and toddlers is available during the summer worship service.
Facilitated by Laura McKinstry, the Children's Education Ministry Team strives to provide effective and meaningful programs to aid and support spiritual growth for the children of Downtown Presbyterian Church.
Children in Kindergarten through fifth grade will gather at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary for music, and then join their families for the beginning of worship. Following a children’s message, children are invited to go upstairs to church school classes. Church school classes meet during worship each Sunday, except for the first Sunday of the month when children join their families for the entire worship service and participate in communion.
Youth meet on Sunday mornings. In addition to lively class discussions and projects, they raise funds for mission trips and work on service projects. Fellowship events are part of Sunday mornings’ activities, as well as at other times during the week.
Nursery care is available for children younger than age five during children's music time, as well as during worship.. A paid care giver staffs the nursery, assisted by volunteers. Parents and church members are invited to take turns volunteering in the nursery.
Lee Wright, Director of Music Ministry, provides music for the children from from Kindergarten through fifth grade from 10:30-10:50 a.m.
Our children enjoy getting their classrooms ready for overnight guests during the weeks we host homeless families as a part of Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network.
Other activities for families during the year include a Fall pumpking picking outing, an Advent Festival in
December, and the church school picnic at the end of the year. For the Fun of It provides a monthly fellowship activity for families and other members of the congregation.
